Meet Heather Hemmeger

As both a psychiatric nurse practitioner and a former pharmacist, I approach patient care from a unique, integrative perspective. I believe that balancing open communication with an in-depth understanding of medication management creates the opportunity for true mind-body balance and holistic healing. My experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings—as both a pharmacist and a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner—allows me to blend strategic, evidence-based psychopharmacology with therapeutic interventions that support lasting change.

In our work together, I will create a safe, inclusive, and empowering space that fosters self-compassion and long-term growth. My approach is evidence-based and intersectional, informed by the multiple identities and sociocultural contexts that shape each individual’s lived experience.

I have expertise in mood disorders including anxiety and depression, often in the context of individuals experiencing major life changes, relationship difficulties, or problems at school or work. While I’ve worked with patients at all stages of life, I have extensive experience working with students in college mental health, and I am most passionate about helping older adolescents and young adults as they transition into adulthood and navigate the stressors of high school, undergraduate and graduate school. I am also enthusiastic about helping women who are navigating health concerns, including prenatal and postpartum.

Beyond the Practice
When I’m not working, you’ll likely find me:

  • Curled up with a good book, nestled between my cats Remi, Rowan, and Rory.

  • Practicing yoga & playing tennis to stay grounded

  • Exploring new restaurants & capturing the world through my camera alongside my partner.

How I Can Help
If you're seeking inclusive psychiatric care in Portland or anywhere in Oregon—especially for anxiety, depression, trauma, insomnia, or OCD—I offer a compassionate, integrative approach. My background allows me to strategically blend psychopharmacology and psychotherapy to support your goals, whether you’re adjusting to life transitions, navigating chronic illness, or managing emotional overwhelm. I will be here to help you every step of the way!
